Quick Hits: Hurley named finalist for coaching award; conference action continues

Basketball (19-10, 13-6 MAC)

Head coach Bobby Hurley was named one of 10 finalists for the Joe B. Hall award, given to the top first-year head coach in the country. Hurley and the Bulls finished the regular season with the outright MAC East title for the first time in UB history.

The winner of the award will be announced April 4 at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Banquet.

Baseball (10-8, 2-1 Mid-American Conference)

The Bulls were supposed to play their first home game of the season this weekend, but the weather caused a change of plans. Due to unplayable field conditions, Buffalo will play a three-game series against Ball State (17-8, 3-0 MAC) at Tribune Field at Monroe Community College in Rochester.

Buffalo's first game is set for 3 p.m. Friday followed by 1 p.m. games Saturday and Sunday.

Softball (14-13)

The softball team was also supposed to have its first games at UB this weekend, but the contests were postponed because of weather. The Bulls travel to Canisius Tuesday for a mid-week doubleheader before returning to the road next weekend in MAC competition.

Tuesday's games are set for 3 and 5 p.m. at Canisius (6-17).

Women's Tennis (10-3, 1-1 MAC)

After splitting their first two conference matchups at home, the Bulls travel to Northern Illinois (5-7, 0-2 MAC) this weekend. The match is set for 2 p.m. Saturday.
