I don't usually get coffee in the morning but when I do...wait, scratch that – I always get coffee in the morning, and when I do, I prefer to drink the delicious, well-priced coffee of Tim Hortons.
Tim Hortons products have been consistently tasty since the shop opened in 1964. Although the company started with just coffee and donuts, it now sells everything from bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches to soup. Not to mention the new and incredibly delicious Maple Cinnamon French Toast bagel. Try it with strawberry cream cheese and thank me later.

Compared to all of the places around campus that you can grab a cup of coffee, breakfast, or even lunch and dinner, Tim Hortons has it all – including quality.
You want a bagel? Order it. You want a muffin or a donut? Go ahead. But you also can get real food.
As for my competitor, let's just throw it out there: Starbucks is overrated. The coffee just isn't that great for all the hype it gets.
I mean if you like completely bitter coffee that tastes like something burnt, go ahead to The Commons. It also costs way too much money, and the line always takes forever. Even when the Student Union's Tim Hortons line stretches all the way back to the vending machines, there's a shorter wait time than at Starbucks.
At Tim Hortons, you don't need to pretend like you speak Italian just to order a cup of coffee. Venti, really? It's called a large. While Starbucks might have a more relaxed atmosphere than the Tim Hortons on campus with nice arms chairs to snuggle up in, and maybe it's true that you can get a lot of work done in there, you'll have trouble finding a seat. Starbucks is always terribly crowded – not just the line, but the building itself. You can barely shuffle your feet without bumping into someone.
Before I came to UB, I had no idea what Tim Hortons was – I was a complete Dunkin' Donuts girl. When a Buffalo native told me that Tim Hortons was better, I legitimately was offended – until I went to one. Now I can say for sure: 60 percent of the time, Tim Hortons is better than Starbucks, every time.
Not to mention the Roll Up the Rim to Win competition – of which I have to say, I'm an easy target. You cannot lie to yourself: every time you finish a Tim Hortons cup of coffee, you roll your rim with feverish anticipation. You get so excited because you know this time is it, you're going to win that car or that TV. Of course, most likely you just get a "Please Play Again," or maybe a consolatory free coffee so you can start the cycle all over again.
At least Tim Hortons accepts your meal plan. You don't have to spend actual money or campus cash to grab a bite to eat or a cup of coffee.
It's the most convenient, cost-effective, and tastiest alternative of all of the coffee shops around campus. If you're looking for actual good food and not just a hipster atmosphere, go to Tim Hortons.
