And this is how it ends.
My first few columns here at The Spectrum were a compilation of goodbyes and farewells to one of my favorite authors, Kurt Vonnegut, and to the parts of me I was once too scared to discuss.
But after five semesters here at this publication, this is the last piece I will write for this university.
The possibilities are endless as to what I can write about.
I could write about how in my sophomore year I found love that's still thriving continuously giving me those indescribable butterflies every time I think about it.
I could write about how much I owe to my parents, the two people who never gave up on me and taught me everything I know about becoming a better human being and how I truly hope I one day live to be as amazing as they are.
I could write about my professors, Ma and Bono, who pushed me harder than any other professors on campus and made me the writer I am today.
But on this chilly morning I'd rather dedicate some of this special space to issue a series of hellos and welcomes.
Hello to all of next year's upcoming sophomores. You've realized that your first year of college is nothing like college life and that maybe those goals you came into school with aren't all you made them up to be.
It's OK. Changing your major isn't going to be hard, and you and your high school sweetheart never had a chance. It's happened to us all.
Hello to all of next year's graduating seniors. This will be your last year here, and make it count. It's scary; especially sitting at your senior luncheon realizing if you're not going to grad school, this is it.
You might not find that amazing job at first, but with enough hard work and determination our recessive economy won't be so bad.
Welcome our new administration, SA President Hassan Farah and company, to the offices up aboard the third floor of the Student Union.
We here at The Spectrum have had plenty of problems with the people up north, but I hope for the sake of everyone on campus there can be some sort of solution.
No one knows who you are yet, but hello to the new editor in chief of Generation magazine.
You are walking into a really difficult situation, but I hope you can make the students on campus proud with the tasteless, repulsive humor blended with some very good investigative reporting that Generation has always been known for.
And finally welcome the newest members of The Spectrum staff.
I've been lucky enough to work alongside one of my best friends for the past three semesters that is one of the most genuine people I have ever met and whose unique writing style has the ability to offend and impress.
For everyone who is coming aboard reading this: you are in for an incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience.
When you're here writing 'til the wee hours of the morning, these people will become your family. When you're bored on a Wednesday afternoon and come into the office, someone's smiling face will always be here to welcome you.
So this is it. Thank you, UB.
