This is a story of boy meets boy.
Featuring two of Hollywood's funniest actors, I Love You, Man is a hilarious romp about those male bonding experiences that seem to be just a little more than platonic.
Despite being about dudes who love each other, the film engages itself with both sexes, making it a remarkably funny romantic comedy for all audiences above the age of 18.
Meet Peter Klaven (Paul Rudd, Role Models): happily engaged with big dreams of owning a beautiful storefront to share alongside his bride-to-be.
There's only one problem: Klaven lacks any heterosexual male life partners to walk with him down the aisle. That is, until he meets the boisterous Sidney Fife (Jason Segal, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) whose outgoing personality is just enough to break Klaven out of his shell.
Rudd's portrayal of the nervous, tepid Klaven works wonders as his deadpan delivery and always present awkwardness bring a strong sense of realism to the film, while making it impossible for audiences to not feel the urge to root for him.
Fife, as opposed to the slightly innocent characters Segal played in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and the television show How I Met Your Mother, is an unabashed free-bird who lives life according to his own rules, including leaving his self-pleasure studio open for anyone who walks into his humble abode.
Without the natural comedic chemistry between this duo, many of the scenes in the film wouldn't work half as well as they do. The normal conversation pieces that make up a good portion of the film rely heavily on the two playing off one another, and are not only amusing, but keep traces of realism intact as well.
Actress Rashida Jones (Brief Interviews with Hideous Men) plays Zooey, the future Mrs. Klaven. Her part, while minimal, showcases some comedic acting chops - more so than her unlikable stint on The Office.
Acting as the third wheel throughout the scenes accompanied by Segal and Rudd, Jones does deliver as the starved-for-attention fianc?(c)e.
In one particular scene where our man-panions bring Zooey to a nearby Rush concert, her disinterest mixes well with Klaven and Fife's over-the-top air rock aerobics to create an awkwardly funny situation.
Smaller roles filled by Lou Ferrigno (The Incredible Hulk) and Jamie Pressley (Horton Hears a Who!) flesh out the cast of characters whose differing roles each provide a certain sense of comedy to film.
The tale of man meets best friend offers a love story relatable to audiences of all ages who aren't afraid to melt their cold, lonely hearts. Everyone who has ever had a best friend understands what it's like to love someone of the same sex.
From the awkward phone calls to the drunken man dates, Fife and Klaven's lovable relationship has something Kate Hudson and Jennifer Aniston can learn a thing or two from: heart.
I Love You, Man has enough love story to keep women interested while bringing enough manliness to make male fans want to unbutton their flannel shirt, show off their chest hair and cut logs of wood for a living - proving once again that best friends make better movies.
