Adult Swimmers who crave crass and wildly entertaining comedy need not look any further as the very popular Aqua Teen Hunger Force returns to DVD for its fifth season.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force, "ATHF", is a major part of the William Street series featuring an odd group of characters.
The four focused protagonists include the beverage with an attitude Master Shake, the intelligent scientist Frylock, the disgusting ball of meat Meatwad and their next-door neighbor, Carl, whose main purpose in life is to screw with the edible bunch just for shiggles.
These 12 to 15 minute episodes set in South Jersey usually have nothing to do with the one preceding, nor do they make any sense themselves as what used to be an attempt at crime solving has quickly grown into a show about nothing.
What keeps fans watching is the comedic character interaction alongside its sarcastic, surreal humor. And the fifth season has the most disturbing, sexually morbid humor yet. While most would seemingly be turned away by this humor, the creators have done something right by making the disturbing show one of the biggest hits featured on Adult Swim.
Episodes touch upon endlessly bizarre topics with everything from raping dogs, to penis stealing waiters. Some of the humor found on this set is certainly not for people with weak stomachs.
Included in the set are two DVDs, nine episodes on the first, and five on the second along with extras including episode promos, criticisms, deleted scenes and a movie premiere. The box set, like the show itself, is degrading and offensive, yet sickly humorous.
Though many people find the show highly intoxicating and addictive, there are those who don't find the humor and lack to enjoy the show. Senior health and human services major, Alex Bellman, was one of those people.
"I do not understand one thing that went on," she said. "I don't get how anyone can watch such an idiotic show."
She was not the only one with negative thoughts on ATHF, though.
"I hate Aqua Teen," said Alexa Morabito, an undecided freshman. "My brother watches it all the time, it is so stupid."
Whether one likes or hates this edgy cartoon, it must be said that it's getting attention. If catching episodes or buying the DVD isn't enough, fans can even play the video game on PlayStation 2. A variety of ATHF paraphernalia is also available.
"The show is ridiculously stupid, but somehow, I can't stop watching it," said Danny King, mathematics and computer science major and crazed fan of the outlandish show.
People interested in catching up or getting to know about this creepy yet enthralling cartoon should definitely purchase season five and get to know these characters the way so many other fans have. For those already hooked, prepare for even more offensive comedy, as season five fell nothing short of the episodes that came before it. Audiences should get ready for more shocking topics and foul use of imagination.
