Faculty Senate discusses dirty classrooms

Campus cleanliness was discussed this Wednesday at the Faculty Senate Executive Committee (FSEC) meeting.

Michael Dupre, associate vice president for University facilities, addressed how students and faculty should develop a culture of cleaning on UB campus.

"We would like to appeal this (responsibility) to students, staff and faculty, and we want to start with students," Dupre said.

According to Dupre, since everyone at UB has an interest in maintaining the cleanliness of classrooms and other areas on campus, there will be a community-wide focus on keeping the campus clean. One effort will include a volunteer clean-up after the Linda Yalem Safety Run, which will take place this Sunday.

"We think that we may be making a $500 grant for student clubs if they take some sort of ownership (such as) picking up trash," Dupre said.

He said that he hopes it will motivate the students to be more actively involved in keeping the campus clean.
