Letter To The Editor

The people in the town of Amherst elected Supervisor Mohan in a democratic election! If you don't like his leadership ("Mohan's latest edict," March 9), find a better candidate for the next election. I admire him for attempting to change the status quo and pursuing accountability from our elected officials.

I think the Spectrum which represents the UB community is being hypocritical when they blow out-of-proportion his comment. I think Supervisor Mohan is looking for politeness and respect during town meetings, etc. UB expects the same from its students in the classroom. Just check out the Student Handbook and the section about etiquette in the classroom. The Student Assembly expects the same during their meetings. After all, we are at a university to learn civil discourse and not moronic speech!

Also, in order to get a letter published in the Reporter, you have to be very careful of what you say and follow their new guidelines which are stated under the letter section of the paper. Last semester the Reporter even stopped taking letters from the UB community altogether.

We are also told how to behave when we attend functions. Just check out the exploring inter-faith dialogues and I quote, "We are providing a forum where a discussion is taking place on a level that is not intimidating." I think

Supervisor Mohan is looking for the same thing -- a discussion which is not intimidating!

Educated people should not conduct themselves in a moronic manner!

Hopefully, all of our elected officials are educated!
