"Mature sound, still the same Goo"

It's been four long years since the release of "Gutterflower," but the Goo Goo Dolls are back and sharing the love with all the fans on "Let Love In."

The new album "Let Love In," which has spawned radio hits "Better Days" and "Give A Little Bit," is a relatively calm and soft album compared to their days of heavy guitars, such as the 1995s "A Boy Named Goo."

After what seems like forever since The Edge religiously played "Long Way Down," the Goo Goo Dolls have grown up collectively over the past decade and it is apparent on the new record. The maturity is flexed through Johnny Rzeznik and Robby Takac's lyrics, and the pleasant sounds that include their signature acoustic guitar.

The brand new single, "Stay With You," is making airwaves and putting the band back on top of the charts. The lack of hard-hitting songs may turn fans away, but the Goos still manage to create a variety of catchy and addictive tracks regardless.

The record has a number of standout tracks, including the title track. The song's lyrics are uplifting, and gently convey a powerful message.

Another soothing track that continues the theme of maturing is clear-cut in "Feel The Silence."

"You lie awake at night/ with blue eyes that never cry/ all you remember now/ is what you feel/ the truth remains/ in midnight conversations/ I asked for this moment/ but you turned away," the song begins.

"Let Love In" is creatively assembled and driven by heartfelt lyrics. Even though the absence of harder rock songs on the album may discourage and disappoint some long-time fans, others will grow to like and appreciate the beautifully crafted and matured sound.
