Border profiling necessary

Letter to the editor

This is response to the many articles and responses from random university students who feel that being checked when crossing the United States/Canadian border is unjust. First and foremost, you need to understand that despite pulling the race card from various nationalities, we all get treated the same way at a checkpoint.

I have been inconvenienced numerous times crossing the border and indeed have had seats pulled out of my car, trunk searched and been talked back to as well, and guess what? I am indeed a U.S. citizen born and raised and take this one with a grain of a salt. I am even white! Being Islamic, Muslim, Hindu, etc. might raise a flag in some border patrol officers heads from time to time, but that's life, get over it. Searching individuals at the border is their job and it ensures the security for the rest of us.

Quite frankly, if you feel it is inappropriate or unjust, then leave or maybe stop taking that occasional trip to another country (Canada). Go somewhere where you feel they treat you more justly. Until then, of course the U.S. Supreme Court is going to rule against you, you are expecting way too much leniency when it comes to such a serious matter: national security. I mean, lets get down to brass tacks here, if you are going to cause a fight, you are only making the situation worse. You are giving the U.S. government even more interest in keeping their eyes on you! Go back to your most likely U.S.-funded studies, enjoy life, and maybe stay out of Canada, at least at busy times of the day. Don't take life so seriously; you'll never get out alive.
