Fall Fest 2005

Anyone who likes Kanye West will be able to get plenty of him Friday night as Fall Fest, sans Common, comes to UB. The concert is free for students with a UB ID. Tickets are still available to the general public for $35 in the Alumni Arena. Doors open at 6 p.m. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.

The Touch the Sky Tour includes performers that strive to get away from the hype that pervades much of hip-hop today. Kanye and crew try to stick to themes that generate talk rather than just a growing bank account.

Kanye West - Roc-A-Fella Records' performer Kanye West is on tour to promote his new album, "Late Registration." After the success of his debut release, "College Dropout," expectations are high for West to infuse his signature style of conversational and controversial rap with a fresh dose of originality. West has recently moved into the spotlight for making politically charged comments during a Hurricane Katrina fundraiser.

Fantasia - After winning the third season of "American Idol," Fantasia Barrino released "Free Yourself" last November, a mixture of cover songs along with her original track, "Truth Is." The cousin of artists K-Ci and Jojo, Barrino is a 21-year-old mother who belts out heartfelt lyrics. She has recently braved media scrutiny after the revelation of her illiteracy in her autobiography, "Life Is Not a Fairy Tale," which she dictated to a freelance writer.

Keyshia Cole - A "real" urban R&B artist from Oakland, Calif., Keyshia Cole brings both street cred and soul to today's hip-hop arena. Her debut album, "The Way It Is," was released in June and has launched the success of such creatively romantic singles as "I Should've Cheated" and "Down and Dirty." Cole's r?(c)sum?(c) includes collaborations with MC Hammer, Eve and Dwayne Wiggins of Tony! Toni! Tone!
