Spring Fest - behind the scenes

Saturday night's Spring Fest left the people who went with a few unanswered questions: where was Jadakiss, and why was there a delay of over an hour before Snoop Dogg took the stage?

Jadakiss, who signed a contract last week to play at Spring Fest, dropped out of the concert late Friday afternoon, according to Student Association officials.

"We got a signed contract with Jada, and everything was good," said SA Vice President Dela Yador. "Then we had a problem with insurance and the insurance company didn't get back to us for two weeks. In that time, Jada's manager couldn't book his reservation without insurance and signed him at a concert in Miami instead."

Yador said SA wasn't able to get Jadakiss on the final insurance policy in time. The rapper wasn't put on the original policy because his appearance at Spring Fest was in question.

By the time Jadakiss agreed to definitely perform at UB, the timeframe was too tight for immediate insurance. Yador said Jadakiss did ultimately sign the contract knowing he wasn't on the concert insurance yet.

"He did sign the contract knowing that," Yador said. "That's my confusion right now."

Jadakiss did not receive any money despite the signed contact. SA policy is to not pay performers until the day of the concert, according to Yador.

"We are going to pursue it legally, but we want to do it in a way where we can still be cool with him if we want him to perform at future events," Yador said.

Those who attended Spring Fest had plenty of time to wonder where Jadakiss was, as the wait between Elephant Man and Snoop Dogg took over an hour.

"It wasn't because of technical difficulties," Yador said. "It took a while for him (Snoop Dogg) to get there."

Yador said SA Entertainment had a few difficulties with equipment, but they were resolved long before Snoop Dogg arrived at Alumni Arena. Snoop Dogg's sound check also furthered the delay.

"Snoop had to do his sound check when he got there, which took at least an hour," Yador said.

Overall, though, Yador said he was happy with Spring Fest.

"I think it was pretty cool," Yador said. "I think Elephant Man had the best performance, and Snoop's was definitely good."
