After The Game recently dropped out of Spring Fest due to "internal camp issues," Student Association officials said they are taking precautions to make sure no further problems arise between acts.
With the tentative lineup including rappers Snoop Dogg, Jadakiss, and Elephant Man, SA President-elect Dela Yador said students may see yet another fest variation.
"We're seriously contemplating dropping Jadakiss and bringing in Alanis Morissette," Yador said. "Students have really taken to the idea of making this a mixed-genre fest, so we figured let's take this to the next level."
According to Yador, the reason The Game dropped out of the fest was due to his recent problems in the hip-hop community with mentor 50 Cent and Jadakiss. According to music news, 50 Cent told The Game he would drop him from his G-Unit record label if The Game still chose to perform in the same venue as Jadakiss.
Yador said since Jadakiss was the reason The Game pulled out, he wanted to drop Jadakiss from the fest all together, and replace him with Morissette.
"I'm so fed up with the whole hip-hop community, and by getting rid of Jada, SA is really helping out the whole UB community," Yador said. "Also, I just feel like Alanis would be a solid addition to the line-up. That way we're really picking up on every genre, and let's be honest, what student doesn't own a copy of Jagged Little Pill?"
SA President Anthony Burgio said he has mixed reactions on the possible line-up change.
"Nothing's definite yet, and I'm not exactly sure why Dela is so set on bringing Alanis to UB," Burgio said. "I mean, don't get me wrong, there are certainly times when I close my door and rock out to 'You Oughta Know,' but that doesn't mean I think we should irrationally kick out Jadakiss and bring her in."
Burgio added if SA did decide to change the line-up, by making the fest a completely mixed genre show, more students would be likely to attend.
"We really try to appeal to all groups at UB, and by bringing in Alanis Morissette, we are really reaching out to a whole different group of students," Burgio said. "Plus, she's hot."
Both Yador and Burgio confirmed Snoop Dogg and Elephant Man are still set in stone to perform.
Students in general had mixed reactions about the possible change-up of the fest.
"Yo man, I really like Jadakiss, and I think kicking him out for that broad Alanis Morrisette is whack," said Seth Smith, a junior engineering major. " I mean have you heard Jada's dis on 50, 'Checkmate?' That sh*t is hot yo, and SA is out the frame if they would drop Jada to avoid beef between rappers."
Other students like Juanita Wanika Simone-Galopi, a senior marketing major said bringing Alanis to UB instead of Jadakiss would be the best decision SA has made in a while.
"I really like her music, and I think it would be perfect way to switch up the genre of the fest," Simone-Galopi said. "I'm definitely a big Alanis fan. I even have 'Hand In My Pocket' as my ring tone."
Burgio said the final decisions regarding the fest would be announced later this week, but ensured SA has the students' best interests at heart.
"SA is here for you," Burgio said. "If I have to get one act per every student attending the show, Goddammit, I'll do it. I'm out of here after this year, so money is no object for me. All I can say is, good thing I lobbied for those reserves."
Morissette's most recent album, "So-Called Chaos," was released in May 2004, and included the single "Everything." Morissette, however, is best known for her award winning angry and emotional June 1995 album, "Jagged Little Pill," which included hit singles, "You Oughta Know," "Hand In My Pocket," "You Learn," and "Ironic."
