In Friday's issue, a voter registration graphic ran on the front page of the Spectrum that contained only a logo for John Kerry and John Edwards. In its original version the graphic contained a logo for the Bush/Cheney campaign as well, but due to a technical error, the logo did not appear.
We realize the result was a voter registration graphic on the front page that appeared to endorse a candidate, which is inappropriate and was not our intent. The version that all editors signed off on contained a Bush/Cheney logo as well, and we sincerely regret the technical error.
The Spectrum strives to provide neutral coverage on our news pages, as readers saw in recent weeks with stories about both the College Democrats and the College Republicans, along with balanced stories about expert opinions on the elections and voter registration efforts.
On today's front page, readers will see the graphic as it was originally conceived. Again, we apologize for the error.
