UB Athletes of the Week

Softball's Stacey Evans has been named UB Female Athlete of the Week for her performance in two games against Marshall.

Evans allowed only four hits in seven shutout innings against The Herd on Sunday. UB won that game by a score of 3-0. Evans also pitched a complete game, in a 3-2 extra innings loss against Marshall on Saturday.

Before Thursday's games with Niagara, Evans had five wins on the season with a 1.33 ERA.

Byron McKinney of the men's track and field team was named UB Male Athlete of the Week for winning the shot put competition at the Alabama Relays on Sunday. His throw was a record-breaking one, and it qualified him for NCAA regional competition.

For his achievements, McKinney was also named as the first MAC Track and Field Athlete of the Week this outdoor season.

CareWears Project

Twelve UB student-athletes are looking to lend a hand to some of the more unfortunate inner-city children in Buffalo.

Their efforts will be assisted by several UB staff members as well as Victor E. Bull, and they will all spend an hour in the classroom with the selected children from the West Hertel Academy eighth grade.

After that, the children will be taken via limousine to the Aeropostale in the McKinley Mall where each child will have their own personal $125 shopping spree.

Anna-Lesa Calvert of the women's soccer team proposed the CareWears idea after it was initiated in her former high school back in Texas.

Buffalo Bandits

This weekend's game with I-90 rival Rochester has tremendous playoff significance. With a win at Rochester Saturday night the Bandits will clinch the No. 1 seed and home field advantage throughout the National Lacrosse League playoffs. A win would also give them their first Central Division title in team history.

If Rochester wins, they will remain in contention for the Central Division title and clinch at least a home game in the wild card round of the playoffs.
