Men's Tennis

Randy Rocchio of the men's tennis team was selected as the Mid-American Conference's Player of the Week, making him the first athlete to win the award in the spring season, which is just underway.

The Bulls won the St. Bonaventure Spring Scramble 2-1 propelled by an amazing effort from Rocchio. Rocchio went 3-0 in the event and dismantled all who were in his way, not dropping one set in the entire event. Rocchio now holds an impressive 11-4 singles record on the season.

Athletes of the Week

Along with the above-mentioned Randy Rocchio (who was named UB male athlete of the week), Jenelle Callender of the women's track and field team was named female athlete of the week for UB.

At the Penn State National Open on Saturday, Callender was able to break two school records against some of the better teams on the East Coast. A school record came down in the 60-meter dash where Callender ran it in 7.75. She also broke the record in the 400-meters, turning in a 56.83 mark, almost a half-second quicker than the old mark.

John Tavares

The Buffalo Bandits forward was named the National Lacrosse League Player of the Week after his 11-point performance during the team's 19-16 win over Columbus Saturday. Tavares recorded his 400th career goal in the game.

Tavares needs two points Saturday night when the Bandits host Toronto to reach 800 points for his career. Face-off is set for 7 p.m.
