Athletes of the Week

UB football's Aaron Leeper was named Male Athlete of the Week for his impressive performance against UCF on Saturday. Leeper set the school freshman rushing touchdown record when he scored a personal best three touchdowns on the day, bringing his season total to nine. Leeper leads the team in rushing with 810 yards on the ground.

Jennefer Brankovsky of the women's swimming team earned the Female Athlete of the Week honors by winning three events at Buffalo's double-dual meet against Ball State and Bowling Green. She won the 200 freestyle (1:55.33), the 200 backstroke (2:09.41) and the 200 individual medley (2:10.18).

Volleyball

The Buffalo Bulls (9-20, 1-12 MAC) volleyball team played valiantly against the Akron Zips (21-5, 12-2 MAC) on Tuesday night, but ended up losing in a five-game hard fought battle. Buffalo rallied twice in tying the match at 1-1 and 2-2, but could not pull out a win as they lost in game five by a score of 15-5.

Lindsay Matikosh of the Bulls became only the fourth player in UB history to record 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs. She did both in this game as she tallied 14 kills and 19 digs.

UB will play their final road match of the season on Friday, November 15 at Bowling Green at 6 pm.

Editor's Note

Last week The Spectrum listed the MAC football game between Bowling Green and Northern Illinois on Saturday as being televised locally by the Empire Sports Network. Those who tuned in for the game found a Big 12 match-up instead.

The MAC made the game available to empire, but the TV station could not carry the game due to prior obligations. MAC press releases and an e-mail from MAC Assistant Media Relations Commissioner Gary Richter said that the game was going to be televised on empire, not that it was only available to empire and may not be televised.

Empire is listed by the MAC as one of the stations that has this week's "MAC Game of the Week" between Toledo and Western Michigan, but according to the station's Web site, a Big 12 game will be broadcast instead, followed by the Buffalo Sabres pre-game show and game against Ottawa.
