Women's Basketball
The Buffalo Bulls women's basketball team exhibited a solid performance against the Syracuse Action, a team made up of retired college players, on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena.
Buffalo defeated the Action handily by a score of 74-53 and was led by freshman Hollie Cook who scored a game-high 15 points on blistering 7-10 shooting and was also able to record five steals.
Senior Rachel Martin also had a solid outing, posting a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
The regular season will begin on Friday, November 22 as the Bulls head to St. John's.
The UB men's swimming and diving team kicked off its 2002-03 campaign on Saturday in Akron, OH against Ohio University. Buffalo fell in a closely contested match by a score of 126-117.
The Bulls showed their off-season progress taking one of the top teams in the MAC down to the wire. Buffalo was in first place for the entire match until the final event, which was the 400 free relay. 13 points were awarded to the Bobcats with first and third places finishes with the Bulls finishing in second, losing by 1.94 seconds.
Buffalo will kick off its home schedule next Saturday when they host Ball State at Alumni Arena.
Despite coming out extremely hot in the first game, the Bulls volleyball team (9-16 overall, 1-10 MAC) ended up flat against the Kent State Golden Flashes (12-10 overall, 5-5) on Friday night.
Buffalo took game one by a score of 30-20, but was swept away by the Flashes in the next three games losing by scores of 30-21, 30-28 and 30-22.
UB's Lindsay Matikosh ended up with 13 kills and eight digs on the day and Molly Schrantz added eleven kills and 24 assists.
