Anna-Lesa Calvert

The accolades are rolling in for the UB women's soccer goalkeeper after her two-shutout performances over the weekend that helped propel the Bulls into the MAC playoffs.

Calvert, a sophomore from Dallas, Tx., has been named the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week, the UB Female Athlete of the Week, and was nominated for MAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week.

Calvert, a psychology major with a 3.76 grade point average, recorded back-to-back shutouts against Kent State and Ohio as her team won each game 3-0 and finished sixth to qualify for the MAC women's soccer playoffs. She has four shutouts on the season. Her goals against average is now 1.08.

The Bulls will travel to face third-seeded Ohio on Nov. 5 in a quarterfinal match-up. The tournament is single-elimination.

Women's Swimming

The Bulls pummeled Siena 163-81 in Loudonville, Ky. on Saturday. UB won nine out of the 13 events, beating the Saints for the third time in as many seasons. Junior Jolie Pun and sophomore Jen Brankovsky each won two individual events to pace the Bulls.

Buffalo also took first in two relays. Brankovsky joined Lisa Boettrich, Tiffany Woodsand, Tanya Ng Yuen to take the opening race of the meet, the 400-medley relay, in 4:10.70. Pun was part of UB's victorious 400 free relay squad in the meet's final event as she combined with Trina Sinclair, Jackie English, and Melissa Schafer for a 3:45.35 clocking.

Sophomore Kim LaHaye took first in one-meter diving with 260.30 points.

Correction

In Monday's "Around the MAC" article it was printed that the MAC Football Game of the Week on Nov. 9 between Bowling Green and Northern Illinois, each undefeated in conference play, would not be broadcast on the Empire Sports Network as originally announced.

According to MAC Commissioner of Media Relations Gary Richter the game was not removed from Empire's schedule. Empire was accidentally left off of the latest list of stations carrying the game. A Big 12 conference game, however, is still listed in that time slot on the Empire Sports Network website, www.empiresports.com.

In other news, the MAC Football Game of the Week for Nov. 16 was announced and will feature defending MAC champion Toledo at Western Michigan. The Nov. 16 game is also scheduled to be on the Empire Sports Network.
