Letter To The Editor

I just recently finished reading "How Does Your Restaurant Behavior Measure Up?" by your staff writer, Erika Wiborg. I have never been more embarrassed for someone else's writing in my life. It was simply astonishing to see the amount of anger coming from her. My response is not to criticize her nor is it to scold her for her opinions, rather, merely to inform her. First off, I would like her to know that I have worked in the restaurant business for four years now, and I work on the Niagara Falls Boulevard as well. I see this type of attitude come from a plethora of servers. I would just like her to know that I do not reason with cheap and ignorant people, but I do know that this comes with the job. I happen to know that our average waitress/waiter can make on a given night approximately $25 an hour. Not bad for a non-skilled position. They need to realize that tipping is not a law; it is, in fact, a privilege. People are not required to tip at all. If you feel you are being under-tipped, work harder!

Serving can be a very stressful job, but it has its benefits. If you are not capable of taking on the grueling tasks it requires, find another job. I know many people who would love to enter the serving world but cannot due to the lack of shifts, so be grateful and suck it up. You should be aware of the type of business you are in. If you want prestigious clientele, work at Salvatore's. Try earning a flat rate of minimum wage like a lot of people I know and then ask yourself, is it worth it?
