This past weekend, the women's crew team went up against teams from Lafayette, Marist, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Massachusetts and Penn State in the annual Knecht Cup, hosted by Villanova University.
UB's novice eight entry was the only one to reach the finals, coming in first in its preliminary heat with a time of 7:13.5. The team placed six seconds behind Massachusetts in the finals with a time of 7:20.6.
UB's entry consisted of coxswain Randi Prusak, stroke seat Michelle Schwach, seventh seat Lavoya Reddish, sixth seat Kasey Hansen, fifth seat Amy Aldridge, fourth seat Deanna Knighton, third seat Melissa Ward, second seat Jessica Roman and bow seat Sara Sullivan.
UB's varsity four squad could not reach the finals, falling a few seconds short of sealing the sixth spot. The entry consisted of coxswain Katie Johnson, stroke seat Courtney Kane, third seat Margaret Siller, second seat Karey Smollar and bow seat Jessica Barrell.
The Bulls' varsity eight squad tied for 11th among the 20 competitors. UB finished at 7:03 to tie Connecticut in its heat. The team consisted of coxswain Tina LaFountain, stroke seat Kali Spoto, seventh seat Melissa Warhol, sixth seat Mary Conniff, fifth seat Tara Celestini, fourth seat Sarah Vieira, third seat Tracy Clarke, second seat Sara Sheffer and bow seat Victoria Kolomiets.
