Bills May Have New Look For 2002

The Buffalo Bills front office announced Wednesday that it has filed the necessary paperwork with the NFL office to allow a change in uniform design for the 2002 season. They haven't announced what the possible changes might be, although there is speculation they would involve stylizing the numbers and letters similar to Baltimore Ravens or the Philadelphia Eagles uniforms.

A new logo was viewable on the Bills Web site, but was rumored to have been shelved after meeting with fans that returned negative feedback. This new logo, however, may find its way onto the shoulder of a new jersey design.

The Bills are not commenting on how drastic the change will be or if there will be a change at all, but most teams don't undergo the trouble of redesign only to make minor changes.

"The [request filed with the league] is required as part of the process set by the NFL for any of the 32 teams considering modifications. Any announcement by the organization regarding a modification would be released after the final decision is made," the team reported in a press release.

The Bills could benefit from a uniform change by seeing an increase in team merchandise sales from items bearing the new logo. Last season, sales of team merchandise were lower than expected.

Who's Hot

Chris Gratton - coming into Sunday night's game at Tampa Bay, the center had scored four goals and three assists in his last seven games, during which the Sabres went 5-2. Before this streak Gratton had struggled all season limping along to a disappointing total of three goals and four assists. Hmm . think the fact that the trade deadline is coming may have something to do with this outburst?

Who's Not

Fox Sports - that embarrassing exhibition known as "Celebrity Boxing," which pitted infamous stars such as Vanilla Ice, Tonya Harding and Paula Jones against each other in the ring, made me wonder what Fox won't put on TV.

Rant

"I haven't been reading the Spectrum that long but I'm glad that they are giving coverage to all the sports that UB students are involved in like swimming and wrestling instead of just football and basketball." - Mike Peller, UB student.
