Kelly Malone

The UB softball team has lost its catcher for the remainder of the season due to a sprained medial collateral ligament in her left knee. Malone has applied for medical hardship, which, if granted, will give her an additional year of eligibility after her senior year in 2003.

Malone entered the season ranked second on UB's career home runs list. She went two for three with a home run in Buffalo's first game this year against Charleston Southern.

Ball State

The last MAC women's basketball team still alive in postseason play finally went down in the second round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament Saturday night. The Cardinals fell to Valparaiso 77-69 at home in Muncie, Ind. Shala Crook scored 22 points for BSU, who made their first trip to postseason play in school history.

Buffalo Sabres

The team's trend of losing to the NHL's worst teams continued Friday night when Buffalo fell to Florida 5-2. Martin Biron was pulled in the first period after allowing three goals on six shots.

Sunday night, the trend continued, when Buffalo tied Tampa Bay 2-2. Sean Keefe scored the tying goal for the Lightning with 2:10 remaining in regulation time. The Sabres next face Ottawa at home Tuesday night.
