The Office of Special Events has selected Stephen L. Carter, a Yale professor and author, to be the ninth annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative speaker. Carter will speak Wednesday, March 13 at 8 p.m. in the Center for the Arts.
Carter has written a variety of works, including "Reflections of an Affirmative Action Baby," "The Dissent of the Governed: A Meditation on Law, Religion and Loyalty" and "God's Name in Vain: The Wrongs and Rights of Religion in Politics."
Carter was selected because he has a "notion of how religion can influence and sometimes dictate government," said William J. Regan, director of conferences and special events. "He's just an exceptional person."
