This is in response to the editorial in Monday's issue of the Spectrum regarding the U.N. conference. What this editorial, and most U.S. media, fails to mention is that Africa is as much to blame for slavery as any slave owner.
Africans sold the slaves to the slave traders. Some African countries still have legal slavery - Sudan is one of these. The United States made slavery illegal close to 140 years ago yet we're looked down on while the United Nations does nothing about the slavery still taking place in Africa.
That is hypocrisy at it's worst.
